How to Apply
The NHEP grant application submission deadline for 2012 is now closed.

Needs of At-risk Children and Youth: Projects designed to meet the needs of at-risk children and youth;

Native Hawaiian Underemployment: Projects designed to address needs in fields or disciplines where Native Hawaiians are underemployed;

Hawaiian Language Instruction: Projects designed to address the use of the Hawaiian language in instruction;
-
Beginning Reading and Literacy: Projects designed to address beginning reading and literacy among students in kindergarten through third grade;
-
Improving Early Learning Outcomes: Projects designed to improve school readiness and success for high-need children from birth through third grade, or any age group of high-need children within this range, (see registry for priority focus areas)

Step by Step Tutorial
Step 1: Register through Grants.gov. This website is the single access point for over 1000 grant programs offered by 26 Federal Granting Agencies, and allows users to electronically find, apply for and manage federal grant opportunities. You must search for the downloadable application package for this competition by the CFDA number, 84.362. For additional information on the registration process, please view the tutorial located on the Grants.gov website.
Step 2: Download the application package. From this point forward, you will access your unique application from your start page. You may complete the application offline and route it through your organization for review before submitting. A compatible version of Adobe Reader is required, and Adober Reader 8.1.2 or higher is recommended.
Step 3: Begin the application and fill out forms.

Enter a form by clicking on the underlined form title in order to enter data.

Remember to click the “Save” button at the bottom of the form and check the “Form Completed” box for each form as you complete it.
Step 4: Upload files for project abstract, program narrative and budget narrative.

The project abstract should not exceed one double-spaced page and should include a concise description of the following information: project objectives and activities, applicable priorities, proposed project outcomes, number of participants to be served, number and location of proposed sites.

The program narrative should respond to the selection criteria, follow the order of the selection criteria, and include your response to the competitive preferences if you decide to address them.

The program narrative must be no more than 25 pages using the following standards:

(a) A “page” is 8.5” X 11”, on one side only, with 1” margins at the top, bottom, and both sides.

(b) Be double-spaced

(c) Use a font that is either 12 point or larger or no smaller than 10 pitch (characters per inch).

(d) Use one of the following fonts: Times New Roman, Courier, Courier New, or Arial. An application submitted in any other font will not be accepted.

The budget narrative should be carefully linked to the goals, objectives, and activities of the program narrative portion of the application.
Step 5: Verify that all of your information is complete and correct on all required forms and narratives. You have the option to print each form at any time by clicking on the print/view icon next to the appropriate form. You also have the option to print the complete e-Application package in PDF.
Step 6: Submit your application. Only authorized individuals for your organization can submit an application. Click on the “Ready to Submit” button at the bottom of your application. Enter and verify the authorizing representative information. Click the “Submit” button. You will receive an e-mail to confirm that your application was received, and it will include a unique application number. Please print and keep this e-mail for your records. You can check the status of your application on the “Track My Application” page of Grants.gov.
